Super fresh fish with excellent preparation. This place has a lot of potential.
That said, we tried to eat here twice in one week. The first time they were sold out and closing almost 2 hours early. The second time they were very nearly sold out at 3pm and not even half of us were able to order fish. The beef stew was decent but very fatty. We enjoyed the Hawaiian platter for two. Very good. But we really wanted fish.
The soda machine was out of order, as was the tea. They offered only water, canned Pepsi and diet Pepsi.
This could easily be a 5 star visit, especially with as friendly and helpful as the staff was. The fish we did get was delicious. If you go, get there early in the day to maximize your experience.

Best lau lau I’ve ever had, and the pipikaula was perfection! The chicken long rice i got kinda tasted dry like it was the bottom of the barrel, but I’m willing to try again because the rest of the food was absolute perfection. Seriously, BEST lau lau.
The food was good. They allowed me to order beef laulau on Sunday even though they don't cook the beef on Sunday. I just had to call and pre-order on Saturday.
I CAN'T BELIEVE this place is right in Kapolei! If you been here few times or more, you'll know there aren't a lot of good authentic homie foods. And this place was EXCELLENT, DELICIOUS, and AFFORDABLE! I felt like I just had a great home cook meal made with a lot of loves!I went an hour before closing but foods still taste fresh, juice, and right amount of fat. Definitely will go back to try the beef and poi!
You don't need to go all the way to Helena's for authentic Hawaiian foods. Please just check it and you'll fall in love. I got the mini Laulau plate that's great for one person(recommended by the young man which I really appreciated)!!! Mahalo for the great foods!!
And make sure to leave a tip EVEN you are ordering take out because they deserve it and it seems like a family run. I was told they have another location especially if you want to order a traditional ROASTED PORK!
In my opinion this is the best local style beef stew on the island! The meat is so tender and flavorful. The cashier was super patient with my 95 year old father-in-law while he was ordering.
Ordered a kalua plate with a side of squid luau. The kalua was very good: salted well and juicy. The squid luau was not: too salty and just not good.
Disappointed that the Kapolei location is not serving poke at the moment due to the fish prices. I consider Young's Poke as one of their flagship offerings so to not have it offered was another downer to the meal.
The employee working the register could also show a little more aloha, but certainly was not a make or break to the overall experience.
Always great Hawaiian food here!! I had Uncle Al's Hawaiian bento. (I think 🤔 that's what it was called) It wasn't a big plate, because I don't eat much. It was perfect!! I bought 1/2 pound of roasted turkey tails, too. I also got their li hing mui gummy bears for dessert. That was so yummy!!
I love the fact that their located in Kapolei. I don't have to drive downtown to eat delicious Hawaiian food...
